I don’t really know where to start with this one.
From time to time I read World War 1 and 2 histories. I’m currently re-reading ‘Berlin: The downfall 1945’ by Anthony Beevor. I came across this quote, taken from a letter written by Eva Braun as the Russian Armies closed on Berlin and the 3rd Reich collapsed:-
‘I cannot understand how it should have all come to this, but it is impossible to believe anymore in a God’ (p279).
My first reaction: ‘Whaaat?’
My second reaction: ‘Whaaat?’
My seventy -fifth reaction ‘Whaaat?’
…and then thinking of when I’ve heard that phrase used by others (and myself) when the ‘pet god’ has failed to mould himself around a chosen goal. The old quote is true: ‘God made us in his image and we repaid the compliment by creating him in ours’.
